Hi,
I’m new here and I think using WIFI would be the system that would convert me from DCC. It is internet of things and could be DCC on steroids. However there are a few things that will have to happen before. Please take this as an opinion and suggestions, not a critic.
Connect to existing sound DCC decoders
I have a lot invested in DCC sound decoders, and probably lots of potential customers as well. A complete swapping to a new decoder would not be a good financial move. This is not considering sound decoder manufacturer such as Soundtraxx, ESU and TCS have the correct sounds; chuff, bell and whistles for specific engines and roadname. So imo, a smooth and more probable transition will require to have wifi module capable send dcc signals to existing sound decoders. IMO, sounds are a speciality.
Accessories
With DCC, you can control your entire layout for turnouts, signalling and more with JMRI on a PC or an app on smartphone or tablet. I think WIFI accessories for switch, lights, signalling, or anything that can be control will be a killer to DCC for the future model railroading.
IOS app. But I see its coming
Thanks
Simon
Hello Simon,
Welcome to the LocoFi Forum. Your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated.
>Connect to existing sound DCC decoders
Please note that the interfacing module would add to the existing cost and complexity. So, overall it may not be a desirable move. If you are heavily invested in DCC, we suggest you keep it that way unless of course you're encountering issues with it. Please note that DCC can never be "on steroids". It's an older technology with severe limitations when compared to what is possible with today's technology. As for the correctness in sounds, LocoFi gives you the freedom to have your own sounds. You can find examples right here on this forum of how some of our customers have used their own customized sounds and achieved almost perfect realism.
>Accessories
We couldn't agree more. Eliminating wiring gets rid of not only a host of problems but the WiFi advantage can provide a host of additional benefits.
>IOS app. But I see its coming
We apologize for the delay but it's certainly on our roadmap.
Best regards,
