Hello kiwa,
Once you have downloaded the app, you absolutely do not need any internet connection. With that said, please take a look at the video LocoFi - When I first receive my module to get started.
There are many ways to establish networks between the LocoFi modules and the smartphone controllers:
Make a direct connection from the smartphone to the module. Under the wireless settings of your phone, find your "LOCO-xxxxxx" and connect to it directly. One loco per phone.
In the above scenario, the LocoFi module is acting as an access point (aka router). So, that lets you add more locos to the already established network between your smartphone and the (first) module. The remaining modules connect as clients just like your smartphone. Limit is upto 8 devices on the network.
Make your smartphone as a hotspot (without internet is fine) and add locos to your hotspot network.
With your smartphone connected to your home/private WiFi network (again, no internet required), add as many locos to this network.
Except for the direct connection (see 1. above), the procedure to add a loco to an existing network is straightforward:
Connect your smartphone to the network you want to add the locos to (could be the direct connection with the first module as discussed above).
From the main screen, click the three dots in the top right corner and click 'Add Loco'.
With all the permission acceptance out of the way, select all the locos available to be added and click 'Add to Network'.
You will be prompted to provide the password to the network you are adding your locos to (the one your phone is already connected to). Without this, your loco will not be able to authenticate with the access point. If connecting to a LocoFi network, leave it blank.
See your locos getting added one by one. Once back on the main screen, you will see all the locos listed.
Click 'Manage' on as many as you want to control them simultaneously (separate from consisting).
For consisting, with all the available locos on the main screen, click the three dots again in the top right corner and select 'Create Consist'.
You can find this and other information in our various guides available at Resources.
Hope that helps.
Best regards,
LocoFi Team
